Interview with Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : Fashion and style can be low-cost and material saving. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : Glasses can be the least flexible accessory since a short-sighted person would never pay for several pairs of glasses all equipped with lenses. For those who also care a lot about their style in dressing up they want their glasses to be diverse and distinctive. We start from that point and finally got an easy solution to fulfil this need. .Frank Scott: What are your future plans for this award winning design?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : We’d like to find a manufacturer/ company who’s willing to produce/launch the product. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : Three months. .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : It's only to pursuit an inspiration. We both have myopia in real life and own several pairs of glasses. We virtualized the concept after finding the real need in our daily life. .Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : No, currently it’s only a concept not used by any company. The option is open and we’d be glad if any company interested in that product and we can further discuss with them. .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : We both have myopia and we are the target users who have the need with interchangeable glasses’ frame. .Frank Scott: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : No, it’s just an inspiration from our daily experience. .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : Anyone who wears glasses, no matter for the myopia or the people wearing sunglasses. .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : Nowadays, if you wish to have a pairs of glasses with a different colour/pattern, you always have to buy another brand new pair, for the myopia, it's always costly to pay for the lenses. Some people then to choose a glasses’ frame only but then they cannot see clearly. The new design we have provides an alternative solution where you can have both with a very low expense and it's also material saving. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : Basically it’s still a pair of glasses but it’s more than that. A plus means more choices, colours and most importantly, a new attitude of fashion. .Frank Scott: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : 3D modelling software, Keyshot & Photoshop. .Frank Scott: What is the most unique aspect of your design?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : An easy and cost-saving way but stylish. .Frank Scott: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : It’s only two of us. .Frank Scott: What is the role of technology in this particular design?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : This design is quite achievable which doesn't require a high level of technology. The only critical aspects to discuss are probably the thickness of the cover frame and the material strength. .Frank Scott: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : We did short interviews to our friends and relatives, many of them faced the same problem like us. .Frank Scott: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : The way to connect the cover frame and the main body, we’ve discuss several alternatives like some mechanism, nuts & etc. But in the end we think the magnets would the easiest way. .Frank Scott: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : A good design concept should be shared and appreciated and we believe A’ design Award is the right one with a high credibility and an international platform. .Frank Scott: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : It’s a very idea-orientated project. We think all good ideas come from daily experience and we should always try to solve the problem we have with the current product, no hesitated. .Frank Scott: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?. Yi Teng Shih and Jiani Zeng : We’d like to thank the University of Nottingham’s support in this project. We were encouraged to generate new ideas, virtualize them and also share the great ideas to international associations. .
